Getting Ready to Move

Greg Tamsett - Thursday, October 07, 2010

If you’re getting ready for your move, it can seem like the only thing piling up quicker than your moving boxes are the worries surrounding your move.  Moving is said to be one of the most stressful events a person can go through, which means you’re not alone.  Thankfully, stress relief can be found in a few unexpected, yet simple ways…

If you’re pre-packing your cardboard boxes for your move, then you’re way ahead, compared to most people. But, a stack of full boxes can sure make life unpleasant. Try and dedicate one room that is not used frequently and store all your boxes in one neat stack. This allows life to continue is a semi normal way rather than tripping over a stack of moving boxes every time you go to the loo

 Label Everything

It may seem awfully simple, but labeling your moving boxes can save you a tremendous amount of time and energy during moving and unpacking.  No detail is too small to include on the box, as you’re likely to be searching for a few small, random items soon after arrival at your new place.  Labels will also help you and your movers identify fragile items during your move and put them in the correct rooms on arrival, this will reduce the amount of double handling required.

Organised Unpacking

Just because you’re moving boxes are in your new place, doesn’t mean the stress is over.  Most people tend to overlook the unpacking process of the move.  Organisation is very important at this point.  Once your boxes are placed in the rooms they need to be in, you can focus on unpacking one room at a time.  On the day of your move, it can be advantageous to get your bedroom completely setup.  This will allow you to end and start each day in an organised, completely unpacked room.
